Musical performances by featured artists from the Sounds Suspicious Musicians Collective!
Sounds Suspicious resembles a record label, but at its heart, it is truly just a collective: musicians in British Columbia sharing a platform to elevate one another’s works.
A fearless and meticulous songwriter and composer, Andrew Judah's diverse sound is strung together by a love of evolving cinematic orchestrations and bittersweet melodies. Piecing together what others might dismiss as incompatible sounds, he has found a way to employ familiar, organic instruments with warped analog textures. The arrangements are playful and exploratory, with subtle rhythmic complexities. Controlled chaos. All of this diversity in sound is held together by a single thread, Andrew’s voice.
Oakmoss is comprised of Kelowna born, James Balehowsky. Balehowsky has been a continual presence in the Okanagan music community, creating music spanning from his hardcore days in the early to mid 2000s, ambient explorations in the late 2000s, folk, alternative, and punk music in the 2010’s, and now with the culmination of his genre explorations and personal artistic vision, Oakmoss was created in 2020. Classically trained, Balehowsky’s strong and haunting voice has remained a constant throughout his musical explorations. By combining influences of experimental, psychedelic and lofi/hifi house music, Oakmoss weaves electronic beats with ambient guitar riffs and unforgettable vocals to create an unfolding collaged sound that is both energetic and at the same time emotional.
As one of Canada's premiere violinists, Chloe Davidson pairs musical virtuosity and human vulnerability with stunning grace. As a solo artist, Davidson commands over a decade of experience--writing and performing dynamic material that pairs incisive, earnest wordplay with lush, cascading swells of harmony.
Through both poetic and honest lyrics linked with simple melodies, Waters creates an orchestral folk experience that explores the deepest parts of the human heart.
This sonic blending creates an emotional honesty throughout the music that lures you into a playful yet challenging encounter.
